About the Event

The International MBA Women Careers Day is a unique, one-day, online conference, organised by the new website WOMEN-omics.com and MBA-Exchange.com to celebrate International Women's Day in a practical and innovative way. It brings together :

  • MBA women and alumnae from top business schools, and;
  • Companies interested in recruiting, retaining and developing them.

The event will explore and discuss the powerful economic force of women as talent and consumers ('womenomics') and how companies can tap into this force to improve their bottom line. There are three strands to this force.

The power of Womenomics

TALENT: First, companies and organisations can improve their bottom line performance by using women's skills more effectively (they are the majority of educated talent today).

LEADERSHIP: Second, companies with greater numbers of women at the senior levels have been shown to out-perform those with fewer numbers.

MARKET: Third, over 80% of consumer purchasing decisions in the United States are made by women. The statistics are similar in other markets. The smart companies know they need women strategic thinkers, marketers and senior managers in abundance to better reflect, anticipate and respond to this huge and growing market.

Making change happen

Few CEOs recognise the importance of women as an economic opportunity. But those that do are passionately committed to change.

For example, Michel Landel, CEO of the global facilities management and services company Sodexo told WOMEN-omics.com that if he let the pressure off for 30 seconds it would be over. Young male managers were not as progressive as he expected and Landel felt the need to keep the pressure on to advance women in the organisation. He recognises it requires a mindset shift in his management teams. But the results will be worth it. Already, he believes the company has become more agile and innovative as a result of developing women to top positions, and that their approach to gender helps it win new contracts.

The conference will focus on three themes:

  • WOMENOMICS - THE NEXT ECONOMIC REVOLUTION

    Alison Maitland, co-author of the influential new business book, "Why Women Mean Business: Understanding the Emergence of Our Next Economic Revolution" (Wiley, 2008), will present the findings of her book.

  • MAXIMISING WOMEN'S TALENTS IN A SUSTAINABLE CAREER PATH

    Avivah Wittenberg-Cox, co-author of "Why Women Mean Business", a consultant, executive coach and publisher of WOMEN-omics.com will present the key issues women should be aware of in managing their careers (and lives).

  • SEIZING THE OPPORTUNITY

    Morice Mendoza, editor of WOMEN-omics.com, will chair this panel discussion in which company representatives will talk about their experiences in attracting, retaining and developing women in their organisations. The discussion will cover many areas including the changes organisations need to make to advance more women to senior positions, building the flexible organisation fit for the 21st century and how to change the mindsets of managers.

The International MBA Women Careers Day is a unique event that connects talented women with enlightened companies online without the necessary travel, while offering an excellent return on time and resources. The event platform leverages powerful technology and its global reach makes it easier for employers and MBA students /alumnae to connect online.
