2019 H1B Sponsorship Report Popular Functional Areas

This article focuses on the 2019 H1B Sponsorship Report Popular Functional Areas.


The top five functional areas (also known as Standard Occupational Classification or SOC) make up around 70% of all business related applications for the H1B in 2019. These functional areas are as follows (with number of applications):

  • Accountants and Auditors (9891 applications)

  • Management Analysts (9624 applications)

  • Financial Analysts (8777 applications)

  • Market Research Analysts and Marketing Specialists (4721 applications)

  • Financial Specialists (3570 applications)

While Accountants and Auditors hold the highest spot for number of applications, it is the Financial Analysts who have the highest average salary out of our top contenders. Moreover, all of these functional areas have significant applications in both New York and California, with three of them also having significant applications in Texas as well.

Almost all the top job titles for these functional areas are in the $50-$100k range. There are, however, two top job titles in Management Analysts and three in Financial Analysts which are in the $100k-$150k range.

The vast majority of the top employers for these functional areas are in either Financial Services and/or Consulting industries with the exception of Market Research Analysts and Marketing Specialists who’s top employers are mostly in the Technology and/or Internet and eBusiness industries.
