Iowa MBA Business Analytics Case Competition

This competition is a chance for some of the brightest graduate analytics students in the country to come together and solve a real-world business problem. Teams will be asked to perform a deep-dive analysis and consider multiple data points before making their recommendations to a panel of industry experts.

Description
The Iowa MBA Business Analytics Case Competition began in 2016 and is now in its 2nd year. The first annual competition saw a successful turnout of teams from 14 MBA programs around the country that came to Iowa City to solve a real-world business problem. Teams were asked to analyze admission data on patients of UnityPoint Health Clinics to identify risk factors that might lead to readmission of those patients. The desired outcome was to create a process that would reduce cost to both patient and provider, while also providing the highest quality of care to those patients. Teams analyzed a large data set and utilized various analytics tools and programs to create a visualization tool that would aid practicioners in their evaluation and treatment of patients. This competition seeks to create an environment in which students are able to help solve a real business problem while also getting real-time feedback from industry experts.

Rules
- Limited to 1 team per school.
- Teams should be comprised of 4 students.
- At least 2 students on each team must be currently enrolled in a full-time MBA program. The other members can come from other graduate programs.
- The case will be distributed one week prior to the event.
