H1B Sponsorship and the Top States

Who are the H1B sponsors in the USA? Where are the sponsored jobs, for what roles? This is what we explored in our H1B Sponsorship 2017 Business Profiles Report. Within our International Section, you can search and filter 52,089 H1B sponsorships for business profiles, filter by state, functional area, job title, and employer name.

This article focuses on the H1B Sponsorship Popular States.

Out of the top 10 Popular States for H1B employment, the top 3 (California with 11,940 applications, New York with 11,451, and Texas with 4,389) account for more than 50% of the total H1B Sponsorships across the USA! The next top 10 states in terms of H1B applications are:
- New Jersey (2,829 applications)
- Illinois (2,575)
- Massachusetts (2,445)
- Washington (2,046)
- Florida (1,579)
- Pennsylvania (1,258)
- Georgia (1,246).

California

If we take a closer look at the top job titles in California, the only one in the $100K - $150K range is Product Manager ($112K), while all the other job titles are in the $50K - $100K range.
Half of the top employers are in the Consulting industry (Ernst & Young, Deloitte, PWC, KPMG, Infosys).
Concerning the top functional areas, there is a very disperse distribution (Analysts, Accountants, Computer and Information System, Finance, Sales, Marketing etc.). The highest average salary goes to the Computer and Information Systems Managers with $146K per year. The lowest average salary goes to the Accountants and Auditors with $71K per year.
Commonly, we would think that the highest salaries are in the biggest cities, i.e. San Francisco, Los Angeles, or San Diego. However, the highest number of applications (3,293) AND the highest salary ($112K) is in Santa Clara, followed by San Francisco (2,715 applications for an average salary of $100K per year), and Los Angeles (2,008 applications for an average salary of $86K).


New York

By taking a closer look at New York, 6 top companies out of 10 are in the Financial Services industry (JP Morgan Chase & Co., Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, BlackRock) and the other four are in the Consulting industry (PWC, Ernst & Young, Deloitte, KPMG).
Concerning the top job titles, only one stands out from the others: Vice President, with an average salary of $125K per year. All the other job titles are located in the $50K - $100K average salary range.
Three functional areas out of ten are in the $100K - $150K: Marketing Managers ($138K), Computer and Information Systems Manager ($135K), General and Operations Managers ($116K), and one functional area stands out with an average salary of $161K per year: Financial Managers.
Finally, the top location that accounts for the most applications filed is New York with 9,780 filed applications. All the average salaries are in the $50K - $100K range.


Texas

If we look at the third top state, Texas, with 4,389 applications filed, 7 out of the top 10 employers are in the Consulting industry (Ernst & Young, Deloitte, Tech Mahindra, PWC, Infosys, KPMG, Accenture).
All of the top job titles are located in the $50K - $100K average salary range. The job title with the highest applications files is Business Analyst (185 applications), followed by Management Analysts (101), and Financial Analysts (85).
Three functional areas stand out with an average salary above $100K per year: Architectural and Engineering Managers ($143K), Computer and Information Systems Manager ($118K), and Marketing Managers ($116K).
The average salary for the top locations are all located in the $50K - $100K range. The location with the highest filed applications is Harris with 1,655 applications, followed by Dallas (978), and Travis (401).
