Taking your Virtual Event from Good to Great

With the past year being what it was, we have all had to face new challenges, and overcome hurdles as they have come our way. But while overcoming a challenge is an accomplishment, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. Whether we like it or not, Virtual Events are most likely here to stay, and we are here to help you make the most of it!

All virtual events will have a few things in common. Presenters showing off their PowerPoints, candidates sitting there listening behind their webcams, WebEx, Teams, Google Meet, the list goes on. What a good event needs is ways to set it apart from the crowd. A way to provide value to Employers while also engaging candidates, so the next session isn’t just another face behind another webcam. The point of these events should be to connect people, to remove the virtual barrier and make real connections and relationships.


For employers, a good platform should have all the tools they want to use and need. It should be easy, intuitive, second nature. They are bouncing from one recruitment fair to another, and quite frankly are not interested in “learning” how each platform works. They want a platform that is ready to go and will help them connect, and provide them with resources they can use, such as a candidate database, with CV’s on hand. The ability to post jobs, and have different ways in which to interact and network. Giving a presentation is fine and expected, but the real connections are made when talking in small groups or even one on one.

For candidates, the goal of these events is to learn more about employers and to get noticed by them as well. Being able to browse through company profiles beforehand to get an idea of what they are going into. Being able to show direct interest by putting themselves on the company radar. Applying to jobs from those employers which have been chosen specifically with them in mind. Managing their time efficiently between sessions because they know their place in line. But most importantly, being able to sit face to face with potentially their future employer and make real human connections. Let’s be honest, we can learn a lot about someone from what they write in their CV or their biography, but it’s being able to make those real personal connections that makes all the difference.

As a school, a successful event is one where both the candidates and employers are happy. Where all parties involved have come out of it more fulfilled than when they went into it. In order to achieve that, you need a platform which can provide the services and meet the needs of everyone involved. Where you are able to make sure that everyone is happy, that people show up on time to where they need to be. That can keep the candidates engaged and the employers engaging. That will not only provide the technical support and platform tailored specifically for university career fairs, but also the guidance, expertise and experience of how to best implement all of these in order to make the most out of it for all parties involved. Because while having the correct tools for the job is definitely a key to greatness, knowing how to use them is just as important.
