The competition simulates the real-world process of raising venture capital, giving UT System graduate students the chance to pitch new ventures to investors and entrepreneurs and receive professional feedback and cash prizes.

Overview
The Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition (TVLIC) mimics the real-world process of raising venture capital, giving graduate student founders the chance to pitch to a panel of investors and entrepreneurs and receive professional feedback.
Eligibility
- Open to current graduate students from The University of Texas System
- Ventures may be based on the founders own ideas/technology or those developed by others
- Companies must be operating or intend to launch within six months of the competition
- Prior TVLIC First Place winners are not eligible to compete again
Format
- Semifinal rounds held in the morning (approx. 30 minutes per team, running clock, judges may interrupt with questions)
- Top teams advance to Finals held in Crum Auditorium in the afternoon
- Includes a short-format Elevator Pitch component (2-minute pitch, no audiovisual aids)
- Awards Ceremony immediately follows the Finals; the event is open to the public
Notable Details
- Held each semester (Fall and Spring) at the McCombs School of Business, UT Austin
- Special award categories include Commercialization, Health Innovation, Energy, and Veteran-Founder awards
- Alumni companies include uShip, Ordoro, BeatBox Beverages, Phurnace Software and Qcue
