Strategic Pricing & Analytics for Risk

About the Role - International Pricing Department

Pricing in insurance is about assessing risk, and both pricing and risk selection have always been among Admiral’s key strengths. We constantly innovate to stay ahead of the curve. Today, new machine learning and data science techniques augment our traditional pricing expertise.

The International Pricing Department provides strategic advice and support in order to accelerate the profitable growth of our international operations.

This is where you come in:

You will join the department as an International Pricing Manager (IPM). The ideal IPM possesses both analytical and leadership abilities, combining logical and creative thinking with the interpersonal skills required to grow into a future leadership position. You will use these skills to identify new opportunities and solve complex business problems.

Following a period of specialized training, you will work on strategic assignments, which could include helping to launch new products, implementing new technologies, or researching new data sources. By leading cross-country projects or deep-diving into country-specific challenges you will help drive growth and profitability across our global business.

You’ll develop the analytical and managerial skills you’ll need to excel, while building an understanding of our business across the globe. You will also get a high degree of exposure to senior management across the Group.

Future Career Progression

This role serves as a training program for future senior leadership roles, either within the pricing functions or in the wider business. It’s a high-profile role, suitable for MBAs committed to building a long-term career within Admiral.

Past IPMs include the CEO of our US Insurance Operation, and the Head of our Travel Insurance venture in the UK.

The fast growth of our international companies, as well as our expansion into new product lines, will create exciting future career opportunities for IPMs.

Main responsibilities

Identifying new opportunities and owning strategic pricing or analytics projects in the UK and abroad
Helping develop our future strategies in the areas of Pricing, Analytics, and Big Data
Sharing results and ideas with senior decision makers
Managing and collaborating with a team of international analysts and data scientists
Assessing our pricing structures and past performance to improve risk management

Location

The role is based in our headquarters in Cardiff, but requires traveling to international operations for short visits or longer assignments, and may eventually result in permanent relocation to one of our international offices.

Specific requirements

MBA from a top business school
Strong quantitative skills supported by a solid academic and work background
A strategic mindset, as demonstrated by previous experience (this could be in consulting, strategic project management or analysis, working with senior managers, etc)
Fluent English, and either French, Spanish or Italian

Desirable traits and attributes

Proactive and creative approach to taking initiative and getting things done
Team player who can build relationships across functions and geographies
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to inspire and influence others
Previous experience in insurance is not necessary - as long as you have common sense and sound reasoning we can teach you all you need to know, but you must be willing to learn from the ground up and put in the time to acquire the necessary technical skills
An interest in data science or big data technologies, and some experience in these areas, may be considered an advantage but are not mandatory
Personality and a sense of humour (we believe work should be fun!)
