The purpose of the role is to take an active and independent leadership role in supporting and challenging the Diageo Board, Executive and Business Leaders to set and deliver an appropriate risk management strategy that aids delivery of long-lasting holistic business performance. This includes equipping the Audit Committee and ARC to enact appropriate oversight of the risk management agenda.
Market Complexity
This role operates globally with many senior stakeholders, including the Diageo Board and Executive, subject matter experts, functions and markets, and must influence and hold these stakeholders to account to set and execute robust risk management standards.
Technologies such as IoT, robotics, AI and changing business models will continue to advance with pace, creating new and complex risks including cybersecurity risks, Data privacy risks and third-party risks. Risk assessment will require the need to move into predictive analysis as well as creating risk resilience. This role must demonstrate confidence and competence in supporting Diageo’s response to these risks.
This role is a member of the GAR LT and, in addition to the specific delivery responsibilities of this role, has direct accountability for overseeing the development and delivery of the GAR strategy, including the business partnering, assurance and talent agenda.
The role needs to deliver its responsibilities in such a way that protects GAR’s need to provide an independent opinion on the quality of the control environment.
Leadership Responsibilities & Capabilities
Acts as a business partner on risk management to cross functional shareholders, including, but not limited to, General Managers, Finance Directors, DBS Leadership Teams, Group Functions and the Executive. Able to hold the tension on roles and responsibilities and provide effective challenge to activities and decisions that may materially affect Diageo’s risk profile.
Ensures the ARC and Audit Committee are equipped to enact the right level of oversight on the risk management agenda.
Energise, equip and inspire the organisation to construct solutions to embed risk management into the fabric of the business.
Envisions the future and is bold in execution. Work with GAR LT team to embrace technology and develop a strategy and tools to better predict and prevent risk incidents.
Demonstrates high level of personal integrity over compliance, control and risk activities and ensures others do the same.
