Global Service Centres

Our Global Service Centres are an integral part of Global Operations. Employees based there manage day-to-day customer transactions and processes for the global businesses. This may include transactions for our retail bank such as processing loans, credit cards, insurance and mortgage applications, opening new accounts, and managing customer enquiries through contact centres and digital platforms.

Employees in the Global Service Centres also run and manage operations for commercial bank customers. This includes processing credit applications, facilitating payments and managing the import and export transactions that enable customers to protect and grow their businesses through international trade.

Role Purpose (overall high level summary of the role)

As per Finance offshoring plans, GFC has ~ 37% of Finance headcount across five locations NCR, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Krakow. Core processes at GFOC include maintaining and closing the ledger & other balance sheet reconciliations, Management Information, Finance systems management, Financial, Regulatory, and Liquidity Reporting.

This role is a senior position in Global Finance Centre (GFOC) accountable and responsible for managing and strengthening the Risk and Control Environment in GFOC. Individual will be a part of first line of defense and responsible for regular process monitoring and governance through RCAs, management reviews, Controls testing including SOX controls, Management Self-identified issues (MSII) and providing inputs for risk committee meetings. The role also involves close interaction with external/internal auditors, ORIC.

The overall objective is to create an environment where there are minimum or no surprises, enhanced awareness amongst employees, timely escalations, and strict monitoring.

The role’s critical success factors include managing relations within GFOC and the larger HSBC Finance community; ability to work across teams/ sites/ time zones; influencing business outcomes.
We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join this team in “AVP – Operations risk, CCO GFOC, GSC's”. In this role, you will :

Job Description

Principal Accountabilities: Key activities and decision making areas

Risk Management & Operational Effectiveness

Individually accountable for managing the risk environment of a sub function across locations where GFOC operates

Act as a face of the controls team and provide adequate support to operations in identification, assessment and mitigation of risks in the process.

Responsibilities include liaison with the other control teams to provide adequate understanding and support to operations in managing operational risk for their area

Work closely with senior leadership and stakeholders in the organization and provide assurance by performing process walkthrough, risk assessments and providing adequate governance

Participate in organization wide change programme to ensure the risks are well understood and managed

Work independently in coordination with regional control teams and global control office to manage the risks in the end to end processes with limited supervision

Managing the overall control environment in GFOC and creating awareness across teams and levels with a view to manage operational incidents and ensure compliance with Global standards

Ensure adequate governance through risk committees and dashboards to highlight the status of risk and control environment

Lead management and thematic reviews for the key processes and socialize themes emerging from the reviews to prevent recurrence

Tracking and assurance around Management self-identified issues to ensure compliance with internal audit criteria

Liaise with internal/external auditors and ensure audit preparedness of operation teams. Also, track and provide issue assurance for audit findings

Drive functional governance meetings with MANCO and their direct reports.

Ensure adequacy of framework around SOX controls which would include training, testing and ongoing monitoring

Building and managing strong relationship with senior leadership and operating teams

Customers / Stakeholders
Maintain key stakeholder relationships to enhance awareness of operational risk including its identification, assessment, mitigation and control.

To support and ensure that local management fully considers and effectively manages operational risk in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Skills/Experience Required

Knowledge

Knowledge of finance functions such as accounting, reconciliation and reporting in the financial services sector is a must.

Knowledge of IFRS9, RWA will be preferred.

Good understanding of SOX, operational risk and COSO frameworks is a must

Skills

Good business writing skills

Strong communication and presentation skills

Should have eye for detail and problem solving and influencing skills

Ability to challenge information presented, providing reasoned explanation to ensure that agreement is reached by both parties

Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with team members/wider business including senior executive management and ability to develop a good rapport in challenging situations

Ability to work under pressure and deliver in tight deadlines

Assertive, with a positive attitude and an open mind

Qualifications and Experience

CA/MBA finance: 8-12 years of relevant post qualification experience in the risk and controls domain with a leading accounting firm / financial services industry.

Strong risk and control experience. Experience in performing risk and control assessments, assurance reviews and managing SOX framework is a key requirement
