Penn Virtual Healthcare Case Competition (PGCC)
Description

Are you a life scientist interested in business or entrepreneurship? Do you wonder how game-changing decisions are made about our innovative discoveries once they leave the lab? Penn Biotech Group (PBG) and Penn Graduate Consulting Club (PGCC) will be hosting a nation-wide Penn Healthcare Case Competition on Thursday, October 23. This event is meant to give graduate students(PhDs, JDs, MDs, master’s, MBAs, etc) and postdocs an opportunity to solve a real healthcare problem in teams of 4-6 members. You will also be able to meet and engage with corporate leaders from top healthcare and biotechnology firms who will be serving as judges.

All are welcome to apply to participate. No business experience is necessary. Cash prizes will be given! More information can be found by clicking the buttons below.

What is the structure of the case competition?

Students from programs in health administration, health policy, public health, or related fields are eligible to participate. If admitted into the First Round, your team will have ~1 week to solve the healthcare-related case prompt. Following, your team will present your proposed solution(s) in a 10-15 minute video presentation. More detailed information will be included in our manuals for competitors. If admitted into the Final Round, your team will present your solution in front of a live panel of judges on November 13th, 2021.

What if we don’t have MBA students in our team? Can we still participate in the competition?

Yes. Teams may consist of 3 or 4 student members. The team can decide if they want to have 4 presenters or 3 presenters and an observer. IF they opt to have an observer, that person may not participate in developing case solutions, nor can they present. They are purely observing the process and presentation.

How many teams will be admitted into the First and Final Rounds?

First Round: After the submission of the cover letter and resume, 15-18 teams will be admitted to the First Round.Final Round: After the submission of your team’s video presentation, 4-6 teams will be admitted to the Final Round.

I don’t have any consulting experience or business background. Can I still compete in the case competition?

Yes, absolutely! We encourage everyone who is interested in consulting to apply, regardless of whether you do or do not have prior consulting experience. It will be a great learning experience!
